End Tables Redo

Back before our move, I bought two end tables from a local Habitat Restore for $45.  They are solid wood and we think "homemade", but they looked a little dated.

Yes that is snow on the ground!

We knocked out the slats and then sanded them down a bit.

They looked better already!

I didn't have a chance to do anything else with them before the move, so they sat in the garage waiting to be loaded on the moving truck.

Then they sat in our new garage just waiting their transformation.
And then one day...

I sprayed them with a gray primer!

and then put them back in the garage...

Now, they are finally painted and in the house!

I used Behr's Espresso Bean and then put a couple of coats of polyurethane
on the top to help protect them.

It's so nice to finally have a place to put the lamps (other than the floor)!
And my hubby was so happy to have a place to put his coffee cup (other than the floor)!

Now I just have to work on the coffee table I got at Goodwill for $10...

Daniel's First Mission Trip

It's been about a week since Daniel went on his first mission trip.
They traveled to the Appalachia area of eastern Kentucky.
He had a great time and I think he learned a little bit along the way.

(Pictures via awesome chaperons.  Thanks!)

They worked along side another Kentucky youth group painting, working in a thrift store, visiting a nursing home, and building a couple of handicapped ramps.

I have been assured that Daniel did work, but most of the pictures show him goofing off.
He is an entertainer!

They gave out awards at the end of the trip.
Daniel was awarded "Youth Clown" and "Best Male Model".

It makes a mom proud!  :-)

Unfortunately, that first night back he went to bed with a headache and woke up with strep throat.  Until now, none of my kids had ever had strep.
Thankfully, the rest of us were spared!

Sarah-isms

"You have ruined my life!  You have ruined my life forever!"
It was a Sunday morning and she wanted to go to the "brown church" (aka - daycare) not the "orange church" (regular church).
She identifies them by the color of brick.

"I want to go to the pet store and get a monkey and feed it a banana."
"Well, they don't sell monkeys at pet stores.  Monkeys are at the zoo or in the jungle."
"Well, lets go to the jungle and give a monkey a banana."
"We are not going to the jungle and we don't have any bananas."
"Well, we can go buy some!" - problem solved

"I just saw the love of my heart!"
"Oh, really.  Where?"
"Back there.  Can we turn around and go ask him his name?"
"Why do you think he is the love of your heart if you do not know him."
"He was so handsome!"

Father's Day

Ok, I know I'm a little late in posting, but what can I say...
it's been busy and I've been tired.  :-)

We had a wonderful day on Sunday.

I woke up and decided to make pancakes & syrup.
(As I measured the flour, I was praying I had enough.  Whew!  Just enough.)

(So not my pancakes, but they do look nice, don't they?!)

After church we came home and made homemade pizza.  Yummy!

(Nope, not mine either!)

Then we went to see Mr. Popper's Penguins!
All 5 of us...to the same movie!!!

Do you know how hard it is to find a family friendly movie that will not bore
a 16 year old boy and keep the attention of a 4 year old girl?!
It was really cute and Brian thinks he heard Matt laugh a few times.
Daniel enjoyed it and Sarah sat still (for the most part) and loved the penguins.
Score for family time!

After the movie, we went to Kohls and scored a few deals, then shared appetizers at Applebees, and  went to Bruester's for ice cream.

On the way home we stopped and picked up "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (me being the only one who had never seen it) and then snuggled in to watch the movie.

By the time the day ended, I was pretty tired.  But it was a good tired.
It was so nice just being together as a family on such a special day.

A Quick Catch-Up!

Here is a little bit of what has been going on in the last week and half...

Brian came home from Conference

Matt started Drivers Ed, passed his permit test, and became a licensed driver.

Brian and I went on a date!
(We had forgotten what those are!)
We enjoyed dinner and a minor league baseball game for free.
There was a short rain delay, but it turned out to be such a beautiful evening.
(One thing I love about Kentucky is that it will actually cool down after a rain vs Louisiana where it steams up.)

****************************

Our church had a luncheon for our pastor and his family.
They will soon be serving the UM Conference in Belize!

Yeah, we are really feeling sorry for them...  ;-)

****************************

Daniel left on his very first mission trip!

From the pictures we've seen,
I'm pretty sure he is supplying a good portion of the entertainment.
They come back tomorrow and I can't wait to hear the stories!

Sarah's Motto

God made dirt and dirt don't hurt!

Notice she is playing in the dirt in a dress!  She loves it!

My baby is 16!

It is hard to believe... He is 16!!!!!!!

How did that happen?!

It was just yesterday, he was playing with legos and refusing to go to kindergarten because he thought he wouldn't have "Daddy-Matthew Day" anymore.

Now he plays games on his iPhone and doesn't really want to be seen with us.

He really did love his brother at one time!  But then Daniel started getting into his legos and his food...

The only kid in school that didn't like chocolate won the 5 lb. Hershey's bar.  But Mom was very happy!

Matthew playing at Sarah's baptism.

I would love to show you more pictures,
but I know that I have already embarrassed him enough.

Just remember Matthew...

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
My baby you'll be

(One of Matthew's favorite books when he was little and oh, so true)

Master Closet Done - Well sorta...

We have been living with our master closet looking like this...
(after putting up the shelves & unloading the book boxes -
all those books & more were in boxes stacked on top of the dresser!)

(Well, actually, this is AFTER I had already pulled out a several boxes, so it was actually even scarier!)

It was frustrating and depressing, but other stuff just kept taking priority.  I just hated to start, because I knew it was going to take a lot of work and brain power to get it organized.  All those boxes were filled with stuff I was going to have to sort through and find a place to store (office supplies, computer stuff, pictures, dvds...)  Yuck!

I always end up doing some project while Brian is gone.
I guess I just can't find enough to do! (Insert sarcasm)

It took me longer than I anticipated with being sick, but it now looks like this...

I still have a few boxes of paperwork and junk to go through,
and a whole lot of pictures to sort out.

(Don't worry! I saved you a box, too, honey!)

The dresser goes with the set that is in Sarah's room.  It doesn't fit with the toys in there, but eventually she will use it and it will be painted when I paint the rest of the set.

And I still have to figure out what to about these...

Confirmation Day

Daniel's Confirmation Class was confirmed during our worship service this morning.  All of the students also assisted in some part of worship.  Daniel & his friend Anna helped with the children's sermon.  During Confirmation they learned more about the Christian faith and our Wesleyan heritage and how much God loves us.   In the children's sermon they showed the little kids which Disney/Pixar character tells us exactly how much God loves us.

Can you guess?

Yep, God loves us "to infinity and beyond"!  The little kids loved it and I bet they will remember that every time they hear Buzz say "to infinity and beyond"!

All the kids' family members at the altar with each Confirmand.

I asked Matt to take pictures, but since he really couldn't get anything except everyone's backsides, I guess he decided it would be better to take pictures of Sarah.

Sarah was drawing...

f
Then her brother undoubtedly gave her his phone.  She is probably playing "Angry Birds."

After the service church members greeted each of the kids.  They seemed to get a big kick out of all the attention.  :-)   Before we left I wanted to get a picture of Daniel with the couple (and dear friends) that sacrificed so much of their time and energy teaching all of the kids.  Brooke and Aaron did a wonderful job! They are such a blessing!

Aaron is flicking Daniel's ear to make him smile.  It worked!
