A Princess

You would have to be really disconnected from the world not to know that there was a big wedding taking place today.  I did not get up and watch the whole event (I enjoy my sleep much too much!). However, I did set the DVR to record it and then sat down with Sarah to "watch" it tonight.

Classic elegance!  What a beautiful bride!

I just can't get over this hat!  It reminds me of an emblem over an old fireplace or something.

Sarah loved seeing the Queen!  She thought she looked beautiful in her yellow dress.

This was Sarah's other favorite part!

(All wedding photos from foxnews.com)

There was about 4 hours of recording and I think we went through it in about an hour, thanks to the attention span of a 4 year old.  She also decided to fix my hair while we watched.  I am not sure how many little plastic bands I ended up with, but it was a sight believe me!

Thankfully, I do not have to go to England to see a princess.  I have my own little princess right here.

At bedtime we read this book which was given to Sarah by some dear friends at her baptism.

In this story Gigi learns that she is the daughter of the greatest King of all.  She is the daughter of the King of kings.

Matt's Surgery

Matt's surgery went well.  We got there right at 6am and they wheeled him back about 7:15am.  When they were getting him prepped, they wrote on his right leg so there wouldn't be a mixup in the operating room.
"Yes" this is the right leg, doc!
The surgery took about 1 hr 45 mins.  The tear was pretty severe and they had to stitch up the tear.  It makes for a longer recovery time, but he shouldn't have future trouble with it.

When he was coming out of the anesthesia, he was very cold and shivering a lot.  They were able to give him something that helped with the shivering and then he worked his way in and out of sleep.
Matt snoring.  It wasn't until the nurse was unhooking him from everything that he noticed the thing on his ear.
He has done really well with everything.  He did not have to do a clear liquids diet like we thought and it's a good thing.  He hasn't had any problem with food and has been eating about as much as usual.  If we weren't holding him back a little bit, he would have eaten even more.

The pain medication didn't make him sleep like we thought it would.  He has actually been awake since we left the surgery center.  Even the anti-nausea medicine didn't put him to sleep.  We will give him another dose before he goes to bed and hopefully he will sleep well tonight.

Daniel was concerned about Matt and was relieved to hear he did so well.  He even offered to help Matt move from the bedroom to the living room.  These are the rare glimpses that show us that he really does love his brother!  :-)

Sarah came in the door after Brian picked her up from day care and the first thing she wanted to do was go outside and pick 5 flowers for Matthew and give them to him very carefully so not to hurt his leg.  She was very specific about the number and not hurting his leg.
Sarah's tiny flowers for Matthew
Brian will be staying home with him tomorrow, then he will have 2 more days to heal before school on Monday.  Hopefully, he will be ready to go back by then.

We will go back to the doctor next Friday and we will see how he is healing and what the plan will be. Matt, of course, is determined to be back at it sooner than later.  If anyone can do it, he can.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow (Thursday) our oldest has knee surgery!  How I wish he didn't have to go through this, but it has to be done.   We have to be there at 6am and surgery should be about 7:15.  We are hoping to be home by 1 or 1:30.  Matt should sleep most of the rest of the day.

I ran across these pics from the fall.  He loves his baby sister and she adores him!

Since we are having to leave so early in the morning, Daniel and Sarah are spending the night with friends.  Daniel is with his friend Dane.  I'm sure they are watching TV, playing on their iTouches, and probably doing a little bit of this...

Sarah is having her very first sleepover with her friend Janna.  She was so excited!  She didn't want to go out to eat, she wanted to go straight to Janna's.  She didn't even care when I left.  (Sigh)

All prayers would be appreciated for Matt tomorrow and as he recovers.  We are hoping that recovery will be quick and he can get back into baseball in June.  I'll keep you posted on how things go.

Now, I have to go make cookies for Matthew because he gave me that puppy dog face!

Turtle Time

Sunday afternoon Sarah decided to lay out all the blankets on the books for her kitties to have Turtle Time.  We "stole" Turtle Time from some friends when Daniel was Sarah's age.  It is a time to slow down and rest, even though they don't actually take a nap.

Sarah usually lays in her bed and reads books during Turtle Time.  Sunday she decided to read to her kitties in their beds.

As you can tell, she also decided to dress up for the occasion.

Just Monday

There wasn't much going on today other than the usual.

It was just a Monday and I didn't get any pictures.

Sarah fell and skinned her knee (just a little bit) on the way to the car this morning...
Tears, ice pack, bandaid, and we are off again...

We decided to take advantage of the one non-rainy day since who really knows when...
Pulled up the lid of the grill and discovered a bird had tried to make a nest inside...
Cleaned out the grill and enjoyed some burgers...

A few weeks ago we bought a storm door on "clearance"...
Discovered that the missing parts would cost an additional $105...
Took the door back...

Didn't do the bills, didn't do the laundry, didn't do the dishes...
Maybe tomorrow...

Easter Sunday

What a blessed day!  We worshiped our risen Lord today with our wonderful church family and spent time together as a family.  (I even got in a nap!)

Matt is going to be taller than Brian before too much longer!

My sweet kiddos!

This little girl has her biggest brother wrapped around her finger!

What sweetness!

"Jesus Isn't Dead Anymore!"

This is what Sarah declared this evening as we were headed home from doing some shopping.  I don't really remember what was said before this.  Someone must have mentioned something about Easter Sunday.  But with a joy from deep inside she declared "Jesus isn't dead anymore!" She then proceeded to tell us the whole Easter story.  About how the women went to find Jesus, about the stone being moved, about Jesus not wearing his clothes (his burial clothes).  She told the story with the excitement and joy of one who knew the importance of each event.

So this Easter we proclaim Jesus isn't dead anymore!  He is risen!  Oh, glorious day!

May you feel the love that Christ expressed for you on the cross and the joy that comes with knowing the risen Savior!

Hard news to hear today

Well, we found out today that Matt is going to have to have arthroscopic surgery on his knee.  He hurt his knee pitching in Florida at baseball camp over Spring Break.  He stepped just right (or wrong) out of a pitch and tore his lateral meniscus.  He will have surgery next week and will be on crutches for up to 4 weeks.  Yep, that means his season is over.  He missed last season after injuring his shoulder at the same camp.  Needless to say, he is not happy...

We didn't get to see him pitch in Florida (which he did phenomenal!) and with the move, we missed his away games (they only had a couple home games up to this point).  But, at least, we got to see him once this season.

So, as we prepare for the coming weeks, we will hold fast to the knowledge that God is in control and has a plan even in the midst of our disappointment.  Matt is, of course, upset that he is not able to play, but is more determined than ever to be back at it sooner than the doctor has estimated.  If anybody can do it, I know he can.  When it comes to baseball, he is one determined young man!

My God is so Big!

I ran across this looking for pictures yesterday.  Matt recorded this on the way to school this past November. It just makes me smile!

Our God really is so big!

Boys' Room, Closets, and more

Baseball was rained out this weekend, which was actually good for Matt.  He hurt his knee while pitching in Florida over Spring Break, so it was really good for him to have a break and rest it.  We actually had a Friday evening at home with the entire family.  Pizza and a movie!  It was a nice break.

Daniel & his Confirmation Class helped serve a meal at another church on Saturday.  From what I understand, the church serves those less fortunate every Saturday.  He really enjoyed being a part of the whole thing.

Sarah "helped" off and on, but seemed to have a great time playing with her dolls and animals. It is amazing to me how she can play by herself in her own imaginative little world!

We also managed to get a lot done around the house this weekend.  We really wanted to get done with as much as possible the weekend because we do not want to be worrying about things over Easter weekend.

The boys' room is done for the most part.  We still need to take down the ceiling fan, stain the loft bed, and finish organizing the closet.  But, all that can wait a little bit.

I also got both bathrooms cleaned & organized.  It is so wonderful not to get ready out of a box!

My grandmother bought this set for me when we bought our previous house.  The set & the rugs have been in storage for 4 years while we've were renting.
I also got the 3 main closets organized.  The bathroom closet, hall closet, and coat closet (I forgot to take a picture of the coat closet).  I guess I should have taken before pictures on the closets, but you really wouldn't want to have seen that!  Trust me!

This weekend also included an amazing amount of laundry, working in the garage, grocery shopping, baseball pictures, and helping out a friend a little bit. I really should go do the dishes, but maybe I'll just go to bed instead!

Monkeying Around

Things have been moving a little slow this week as far as the house.  It's been a crazy week with everything else going on, so the house has had to be put on hold. But yesterday evening we had a few moments to just hang outside after supper.  Sarah decided to literally hang out...

(Pardon the blurry camera phone pics)

This weekend will be busy as usual.  Matt has a baseball tournament (thankfully at Home), Daniel has a service project with his confirmation class, Brian has to work on PhD work, we have to work the concession stand for a little bit on Saturday, and somehow I have to make a major dent on what's left with putting the house together.  Hopefully, we can sneak in a little more "hang time" at some point!

Sarah's Room

I have finally finished Sarah's room.  Well, at least for now.  There is still a few things I want to do, but but for now I think it looks pretty good.
The bedroom suite was her Aunt Deborah's when she was a little girl.
We got this picture shelf at IKEA to hold books.  She loves reading books in bed.
The first time she saw the mirror she was so excited.  She said "A mirror!" and got the biggest grin on her face.
The view from the hallway door.
This was also her Aunt Deborah's. There is even wooden furniture!
I worked on the boys room all day today and it is still not done.  It's going to be a longer process...

Our day trip

We took a break from all the house stuff and took our two youngest to the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY.  The kids had a great time, even though we went through it in what must of been record time.  The museum is set up where you do a lot of reading of exhibits.  It was crowded and Sarah being 4 was not interested in stopping to read.  Her favorites were the dinosaurs and the Noah's Ark exhibit.

We even had time to go to IKEA & found a few things for the house. An extra bonus!  And we stopped at a Steak & Shake for supper.
Daniel & Sarah sharing a yummy shake
We even had a fun car ride home.  We stumbled across a great 80's radio station.  How is that I can remember the lyrics to these songs, but have a hard time remembering what happened yesterday?!  Brian says it's mommy brain!  Sarah even had some fun at Daniel's expense.

So, now the kids are in bed, we've watched NCIS, folded some clothes, & now it is time for bed. No more playing.  I have to go to work tomorrow...
